A STUDY OF
REDESIGN

the brief
Create a prototype of an email platform for an audience of your choosing. Include any new or previously used patterns and systems to create an excellent user experience.
the problem
Currently, email is a mess of spam, meeting notes, slack notifications, to do items, and much more. The search function creates a frustrating experience, responding with every mention of the search term and not getting you any closer to what you’re looking for. I’ve come up with a solution to these problems using previously successful patterns and a few new features.
the proposed solution
For my email revamp, I wanted to provide a platform where the user could check emails as well as creating events, meeting notes, and task lists. This platform would mostly be used by people at work so I provided the elements that would be most beneficial in that scenario.

thinking it through
In the mail section, I wanted to be able to filter by contacts and flagged emails. The contact section creates a better experience in terms of search, because only the emails that include a conversation between one person and that contact will show in the results.

In the actual inbox, I included a toggle switch for focused emails that uses machine learning to remember user patterns to provide the most important emails first, thus creating the most customized experience possible.

For the calendar section, I like the way google does it, but I wanted to add a little more customization with the filters. Because my target audience is people at work, I added a filter option to filter by a work week, further anticipating users needs to see their work week at a glance.
I added a section of notes and tasks that can correspond with due dates, (automatically adding them to the calendar), and lists to filter tasks based on importance or preference.

Tasks and meeting notes can be added from the inbox dashboard when the user hovers over an email.
